Watch out Time Out!

LONDON listings magazine Time Out -- ever at the forefront of fashion -- last month sent a 1995-style rights-grab letter to its freelance writers and photographers. They aren't impressed.

The publisher particularly wants to recycle work in international Time Out clones, for no extra money. But they've thrown in the too-familiar lawyers' laundry list. In particular, they want the right to change freelances' work and they want freelances to indemnify them against law-suits arising from the (altered) work.

The NUJ's advice, as always, is not to sign such a thing. In response to early individual resistance and the formation of a TO freelances' network, TO is understood to be revising the contract. TO freelances should contact the Freelance editor now to be kept in touch.
