Advice - Welcome / Accessibility
The following are draft notes on accessibility of the Guide.
The Freelance Fees Guide is designed and tested for use on mobile devices. This means that it should also be ideally configured for accessibility, including screen reader programs.
Text size
We strongly recommend that users who need to enlarge text on any website install either the free Mozilla (FireFox) web browser or the equally free Opera web browser program. See links below.
- In Mozilla, hold down the
Ctrlkey and hit the+key to increase the text size. Repeat until large enough. - In Opera, hit the
0(zero) key. Repeat.
Screen readers
We have attempted to design all pages with a minimum of "clutter" - so that you hear useful content straight away.
We recommend using Opera - either in "mobile phone" mode (hold down the shift key and hit the F11 function key) or in "Accessibility layout" mode - with screen reader programs. Either mode will leave the site menu bar at the end of the page.
Feedback is very welcome - please email your comments to ffg@londonfreelance.org.
Motion
If your vision is disturbed by elements on pages that move, you have two choices:
- View the site using Opera, in "mobile phone" mode as above, enlarging the text as necessary; or
- Turn off JavaScript:
- In FireFox: under the Tools menu select Options, select the "Content" tab and uncheck "Enable JavaScript"
- In Opera: under the File menu select Quick preferences and uncheck "Enable JavaScript"
- In Internet Explorer: ach, life's too short to explain. Whether or not you have a visual disability, you want to get a proper Web browser program.
Access keys?
We decided not to implement "access keys" - because of the irritation caused when they override browser program keyboard shortcuts.
Standards
We follow World Wide Web Consortium standards as far as practicable and are working toward making the Guide fully compliant. (The remaining gaps are merely technical and do not affect screen or audio presentation.)
