The wise & foolish...

VIRGIN NET changed its mind on copyright after pressure from members of the Editorial Photo UK (EPUK) electronic mailing list and others. The organisation invited subscribers to put their World-Wide Web pages on its server computers - and then claimed copyright in all material in these sites. As EPUK pointed out, this would not be very sensible, especially for photographers who put sample pictures up for potential clients to see.

The offending clause has now been removed from the Terms and Conditions. Virgin Net still claims rights in everything posted to "chat" and discussion areas, but its subscribers get to keep ownership of their own websites.
