Cheapskates

Members of the Guild of Health Writers have reported some dispiriting rates. The Reader's Digest Association is offering £200 per 1000 words for articles for a new medical encyclopedia: in the past, it has paid up to £350 for equivalent material. Woman's Own appears to be paying the same rates now that it was in 1975. And book serialisation rights at places like the Mail and the News of the World have dropped from £30,000 to £2000 - unless, of course, you're Victoria Beckham.
