John Brown’s booty!

A few months ago WH Smith announced they were going into magazine publishing (as opposed to just the flogging end) with four WHS branded titles - actually to be produced under licence by existing houses. In March they pulled the plug on the lot. But, happily in the circumstances, it seems that they and their partners are honouring debts owed on freelance commissions, whether published or not. For example, one LFB member reports that an £800 feature "kill fee" arising from the aborted second issue of Payday magazine was paid by John Brown Publishing, who ran three of the titles - in full, including expenses, and promptly too (somewhat amazing, but much appreciated decent behaviour). Any member experiencing difficulties in getting similar treatment should contact the freelance office.
