Firefighters’ side of the story

THE Fire Brigades Union has been prominent among those showing solidarity to journalists on strike. So the least that journalists can do in return is to read their side of the dispute, directly from firefighters.

The national union's website is easy to Google - but the district and local websites are, as you'd expect, interesting and lively:

The NUJ's National Executive has called on members to support the firefighters, and to be especially vigilant about safety issues during a strike. More here.

In particular, freelances doing shifts should stop trying to breeze through security checks without a pass, and start demanding to be sure that their name is recorded on all relevant lists for roll-calls in the event of a fire or security alert.
