Moving on

ALMOST SIX years on, the NUJ's copyright consulant Carol Lee is bowing out. Carol has played a vital role in the union's continuing campaign against rights grabs and for authors' rights, and she provided expertise that simply was not available at the time. The General Secretary believes that much of that expertise is now available in-house, particularly with the appointment of specialist copyright lawyer Carla Wilson, who works four days per week for Thompsons and one day exclusively for the NUJ.

The NEC has decided that the consultancy no longer makes the best use of resources, and that the emphasis should be on campaigning and education. Money will be made available, though, if we need to seek expert advice that is not available from existing personnel.

Addressing the NEC, the General Secretary, Jeremy Dear, stressed his admiration for the work carried out by Carol Lee, particularly in bringing copyright to the forefront of the Union's campaigning work.
