Data protection

WE HAVE received reports that the Information Commissioner believes that freelance journalists should register under the UK Data Protection Act, since our computer and other files contain "personal information". The NUJ is investigating. Note that it is important carefully to distinguish between communications from the Information Commissioner and those from companies that are in fact offering to fill out forms for you, for a hefty fee. The Commissioner's fee is £35.00.
