LETTER

Dire Straits

BEWARE of contributing to Singapore publishers. The country imposes a "Withholding Tax". That means that 10 per cent is deducted from every payment made to writers who live outside Singapore. Then, of course, you'll get taxed on it again by the Inland Revenue.

From now on I shall be adding a "Supplying Levy" of 11% to each invoice.
