THIS MONTH'S Gong Award - a wake-up call for late payers - goes to publishers Profile Pursuit. As we go to press, they are "only" a month late, but were apparently rude during a follow-up call about what had happened to the cheque. Responding to a June 2 enquiry about payment due "in May" for a commission delivered in March for EuroPride magazine, their accountant apparently declined even to give their full name. When the freelance concerned complained to the accountant's manager, the accountant was made to ring back, but refused to apologise.
The Freelance reminds members of the need for invoices specifying whether payment is due 30 days after delivery or after invoice. If they're late, an invoice for £40 compensation plus interest often wakes accountants up - see www.londonfreelance.org/interest.html
