US writers strike

As the Freelance went to press the Writers Guild in the US (www.wga.org) was beginning a strike over screenwriters' right to payments for DVD editions and the like - their equivalent of us having our work syndicated without payment. A motion was proposed for the Branch meeting on 12 November, that we send "best wishes to the Writers Guild in the current strike action. Apart from general solidarity... we are wrestling with very similar problems in terms of giant corporations... trying to re-use our work..."
