Photos – pros only please

There's a depressing trend of media outlets using staff writers or "citizen journalists" to take pictures. But when the Freelance's assistant editor finalised details of a commissioned article with the London Big Issue news editor, he was encouraged to be told that if there were to be any photos to go with the piece, they would have to be by a professional. A branch members had some suitable images. Although it is understood there was subsequently a dispute about crediting the photographer's work, we'd be interested to hear other examples of similar best practice on commissioning photos.
