Indy chapel backs bloggers

FOLLOWING our December report on the Independent soliciting blogs for free from staff and freelance contributors, the NUJ Chapel (workplace-level union organisation at the paper) is on the case. At its November meeting, the Chapel voted to call on management "to confirm that all freelance contributors to the website will be paid at least the company's standard freelance rates" and also called for measures to prevent extra workloads and stress to staff and casuals as a result of the paper's website relaunch. The Indy NUJ Chapel has long been an example of best practice in staff-freelance liaison, and our thanks go to Indy Mother (head) of Chapel Kate Simon for keeping us up to date on this.

See the January Freelance for the report on commissioners for the Indy's The Talking Shop blog forgetting that elusive "money" concept.
