3 April 2009

Following discussions last night the NUJ and Bectu have reached an agreement with the BBC in respect of the dispute over jobs at the South Asia service. Talks will continue over the coming weeks to resolve the dispute. In the light of these talks, the industrial action planned for 3 and 9 April has been cancelled.

BBC strikes - 3 April and 9 April

NUJ members at the BBC are taking strike action over threatened compulsory redundancies at the World Service South Asia section's Hindi, Nepali and Urdu services. There are two one-day national strikes - the first is on Friday 3 April and the second is on Thursday 9 April.

The NUJ chapels at the BBC would be grateful if freelances were unavailable for work during the days of the action. Any freelance who experiences hardship as a result of being unavailable should contact the chapel. Watch this space and www.nuj.org.uk for updates.
