BACS to the future

BACS is updating its security software. At least for one Freelance editor, recently heard apologising "sorry I can't make your meeting - I am suffering a software upgrade" that's alarming enough. When you learn that BACS was formerly known as Bankers' Automated Clearing Services, and is the channel through which you receive all UK payments not made in used fivers or by one of those heritage cheque things... you may be a little concerned too.

This could be an opportunity for you to show how sorted and up-to-the-minute you are by checking with your regular bigger clients that they're ready for the change, which takes place on 13 June.

It could also be an opportunity to lay in a case of baked beans and some folding money, just in case you need to tide yourself over a glitch.
