Meetings venue change alert!
BE WARNED and note now in your diaries that after 17 years at Friends House, the venue for the regular London Freelance Branch monthly meetings will change - starting from the December gathering.
The meeting on Monday 13 November will be at Friends House, Euston Road NW1 (opposite Euston Station) as usual, as LFB meetings have been since around the turn of the century.
The Branch gathering on Monday 11 December - an end of year seasonal party - will, however, be in the basement meeting room of the NUJ's HQ at Headland House: its entrance is at 72 Acton Street London WC1X 9NB (call 020 7278 7916 if you're lost!) Acton Street is off Gray's Inn Road. The nearest Tubes are King's Cross or Chancery Lane.
Meetings will continue to be at Headland House after that date. So the Branch AGM on Monday 15 January will be at Headland House too, and all future Branch meetings until further notice.
This follows the refurbishment of Headland House, whose basement meeting room is much cheaper and less complicated to book than Friends House, with the money for room hire going to the Union. Yes, there will still be free sandwiches, tea and coffee. Yes, there will be an induction loop for members with hearing difficulties (improved following earlier feedback) and yes, it is wheelchair accessible.
A nearby wheelchair-accessible pub to visit after Branch meetings break up will be announced on the night. Talking of local watering holes, NUJ members can get a modest discount at The Chapel tapas bar, round the corner from the Headland House entrance on Gray's Inn Road.
