New Branch blood sought!
THE LONDON Freelance Branch meeting on Monday 14 January 2019 is our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at which LFB elects its Committee for the next year. We encourage all full members of the Branch to consider standing for the Committee.
LFB Committee currently has the following posts, all up for election in January: Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Freelance Editor, Freelance deputy editor, Social Media Officer (these last three are remunerated posts), Membership & New Members Officer, Welfare Officers (two, traditionally one female and one male where possible),Training Officer, Negotiations Officer, Equality Officers and up to five Members at Large (also known as Members without Portfolio.). The Committee meets on the evening of the third Monday of each month, in addition to the Branch meeting, at a location close to the Headland House venue for Branch meetings.
For more on the Committee posts up for election, and what they entail by way of commitment, see here. (Some posts are remunerated: see the link above for details.)
The Committee includes Members without Portfolio (also known as Members at Large) to take on tasks as they arise, which also present opportunities for new members of the Committee to gain experience before perhaps moving on to other posts. Job-shares are encouraged - the posts of Branch Secretary and Equality Officer in the outgoing Committee are jobshares, for example.
The current LFB Committee contacts are here. If you are considering standing, contact the Branch Secretaries via the Committee contacts link above, or come along to the AGM in person. If you're hesitating about whether to stand for one of these posts and you're coming to the Branch seasonal party on Monday 10 December, it would be an opportunity to discuss this with a Committee member informally.
We also need to elect two auditors (not current Committee members) to scrutinise LFB's annual accounts.
Be aware that the AGM and all subsequent monthly Branch meetings have an new - earlier - start time of 6.45pm. They're on the second Monday of each month. The venue for the meeting remains the basement of the NUJ's HQ at Headland House, 72 Acton St, WC1X 9NB, Tube: Kings’ X, Chancery Lane. See here.)
Our regular cycle of meetings with guest speakers and presentations and debates on a particular theme resumes in February with a talk by world famous photographer and LFB Life Member David Bailey, who has taken some of the best-known photographic portraits of the last 60 years. See LFB's meetings calendar.
