Site rights create work!

THERE'S AN INTERESTING new outcome of the continuing copyright imbroglio at EMAP -- scene of one of the earliest and most comprehensive copyright snatch bids. Freelances have refused the company's magazines permission to use their work in digital media without further payment. Now some of those magazines are commissioning new material especially for their Web-sites -- and they're paying in line with the printed-word rates. So our stubborn refusal to be ripped off is creating more work for freelnces, which must help rates.
