SUBS at Nursing Times, now part of EMAP Healthcare, were told in late October that as from the New Year they won't be allowed to use any freelances at all. So presumably they'll all have to work longer hours to cover for the colleagues who are ill from working longer hours.

Opinion at the LFB meeting which heard this news was that these diktats are usually exercises in management machismo which melt away in the light of reality.

But, back when the NUJ had recognition at the title we won a rate of £147 a shift - so watch for management trying to hire people for less.
