Vanunu aliyah
London Freelance member Jake Ecclestone was one of more than 100 people from around the world - and a few brave Israelis - present to greet Mordechai Vanunu on his release from jail and return to Jerusalem (aliyah). "There were rather more people there who wanted to lynch him," Jake, a longstanding campaigner for the release of the nuclear whistleblower, told the June Branch meeting: "we threw roses on his car and they threw black roses..." Mordechai is not free: he may not leave Israel, approach borders or ports or embassies, nor speak to foreigners. That didn't stop him walking into the prison yard and speaking to perhaps 100 TV crews.
