Trireme Award

The Trireme Award recognises terms "as bad as since I was last chained to the oars".

This month's Trireme Award goes to Euromonitor. They recently advertised for freelance proofreaders and sub-editors to work on their market research reports, for £15 an hour. This turns out to be £15 including VAT, making VAT-registered freelancers too expensive because it would effectively up the rate Euromonitor would have to pay to an exorbitant £17.62 an hour. Don't they know they can claim it right back? Payment would be up to 45 days from the date of the invoice.
