The Trireme
This month's Trireme Award for "the worst terms since I was last chained to the oars" goes to a Bristol-based business start-up that was holding a big exhibition and conference at Docklands' Excel Centre. They contacted a freelance to cover to cover the PR "experts" event from 10am to 4:30pm. The rate on offer? "Oh, it's free." The experts were "helping us out" for nothing, according to the start-up people, who consequently felt it reasonable to ask the freelance to report it for free. The freelance declined, even after the potential client tried to persuade them that it would be worth their while, as they might get some "business leads".
