Courses galore!

THE NUJ Training Department is offers a wide range of courses. Below are some of those in London of most interest to freelances. Of particular interest are the "Pitch & Deal" and "Getting Started as a Freelance" courses organised by London Freelance Branch's own Humphrey Evans and Phil Sutcliffe.

Humphrey Evans writes: A freelance who benefited from coming on one of the NUJ's freelance-oriented courses emailed afterwards to say: "I attended your Pitch and Deal course in August. It was invaluable and, since then, my commission rate has markedly increased." Now if that is the kind of thing you would like to be able to say of your own deals, make a note of the next date Pitch & Deal is running, 19 March, and sign up to come along. The day costs £90, which includes a sandwich lunch. Getting Started as a Freelance runs on 27 March, costing £80. And if you feel like getting to grips with subediting, then the two-day Subediting Introduction course runs on 22 and 23 April. The cost to NUJ members is £265, a massive reduction on the £465 non-members pay.

AND Miranda Gavin writes: There are two sessions of another course, not yet listed on the NUJ Training website. Due to high demand, we are running two more "Networking via the Web" day courses in London. It's on Thursday 11 February and Friday 12 February, from 10am until 4.30-5.00pm at NUJ headquarters. It packs a lot into one day: places are limited to 8 people and is costs only £25. There is pre-course questionnaire. You should also bring in some material on a memory stick.
