Consultation on police-press liasion
THE COLLEGE of Policing are consulting on guidelines for "police liasion" with the press, and their guidelines for the police on issues around dealing with working journalists covering events at which police are present.
The consultation deals with specific issues such as police cordons and "taking the media on police operations", and ensuring this is done "in a manner which avoids favouritism.". Best practice around "media briefings" is also included.
The NUJ hopes to have its submission in by 1 July, so there may just still be time to contribute to their submission via campaigns@nuj.org.uk. You can still contribute to the consultation in an individual capacity, as a newsgatherer if you find yourself in contact with the police in the course of your work, by Friday 8 July, please. Details are here.
