Handy hints for hard times

NUJ EXTRA, the union's independent charity for helping members who have fallen on hard times, has produced a "quick guide" to dealing with domestic financial difficulty. Handy Hints for Hard Times is a checklist of what to do, who to contact and which bills to proritise when faced with a sudden reduction in income. Although most of the ideas are common-sense suggestions, they are presented in the knowledge that many people tackling looming debt problems can feel overwhelmed.

To download your copy of the checklist, go to the NUJ website at nuj.org.uk and search for "Handy hints for hard times" or try this link.

The charity continues to consider applications for one-off financial awards from full NUJ members, of course. To make an NUJ Extra application, contact London Freelance Branch's Welfare Officers in confidence or apply directly online. Further details can be found here.

Members experiencing temporary financial hardship are reminded that Union contributions can be reduced to see you through a rough patch. Get in touch with the NUJ Membership Department to discuss options.
