‘So I sent a haughty email...’

A MUSIC journalist reports, necessarily anonymously: "I was seriously annoyed with [very large music corporation] for cancelling an artist interview at zero notice.

"I'm normally very laid back, but they'd cancelled 10 minutes before interview time. I'd had to arrange child care, travel a long way and so on. So I sent the company a haughty email." The journalist told the company it "owed me for five hours of wasted time at £75 per hour". The company paid up.

So the journalist, though still annoyed, was £375 better off than they were when they started the email a few moments previously. "I plucked that number out of nowhere and could probably have asked for more, but what the heck, the point was made."

If you don't ask, you don't get. So: ask.
