13 November 2023: The date has changed. See below.

New members met

SIX RECENTLY-joined members met online with Phil Sutcliffe, Mariam Elsayeh Ibrahim and Shaimaa Alhadidy. Our discussions encompassed several important topics, including tax and contractual matters concerning freelances; creating documentaries in war; and reporting from conflict zones.

The gathering online

We also delved into the procedures for members to access legal advice through the NUJ and how the union can assist its members when navigating tax-related issues.

Furthermore, we explored the new London Freelance Branch mentoring programme, emphasising the benefits of one-on-one guidance from a mentor. We also considered how to represent the LFB channel on Slack effectively and discussed strategies for showcasing our work.

Lastly, we shared updates from the Branch website www.londonfreelance.org for everyone's reference.

The next event

Are you new to freelancing, one way or another? Would it help to get acquainted with other new members and to meet members of the LFB Committee, including some more experienced freelance journalists who can offer advice? NUJ London Freelance Branch holds meetings just for you.

The next is on Thursday 30 November at 6pm. (This is a change from a date announced earlier.) If you want to come and have not received an invitation, contact new-member@londonfreelance.org

This event will be online on Zoom: we will send an invitation to all who have joined the Branch in the past year and to those who ask as above.
