What do you charge to renew your licences?
THE NUJ has long recommended that members issue limited licences to use their work - rather then indefinite licences or - as many publishers would like - assigning the work outright so that in law the publisher is the author. The whole point is that if your client gets more use of your work, you should receive more money.
But how much more?
One photographer reports that a corporate client who had a five-year licence to use photos was prepared to pay 80 per cent of the original fee to renew that licence for another five years. Not bad.
Please do tell us what you have negotiated - whether for articles or photographs, whether for re-use by the same client or to extend a licence to cover syndication to others.
