The Rory Peck Trust: bursaries, safety and awards
THE RORY PECK Trust invites applications to its Training Fund. This enables freelance journalists to gain the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in difficult and potentially dangerous situations. It allows freelance journalists, photographers, camera operators and filmmakers to allow them to take part in Hostile Environment First Aid Training (HEFAT).
To be eligible you must have worked as a freelancer in newsgathering and/or current affairs for a minimum of 18 months. Follow the link to apply.
Helpdesk
The Trust also operates a Risk & Safety Helpdesk. It says: "Register your interest with our team by providing basic details about your upcoming assignment and safety concerns. We’ll match you with an industry-leading security expert who will provide you with private, tailored safety advice on whatever you need during a one-to-one consultation online. Guidance can be provided on physical, digital, psychological or legal risks that you might encounter on the ground, as well as on risk assessments and planning."

The Rory Peck Trust was established in memory of freelance videographer Rory Peck, who was killed in Moscow in 1993. It also has a crisis fund and its Therapy Fund covers the cost of treatment for those who would benefit from professional psychological support.
The Trust runs the Rory Peck Awards: the next call for entries for these opened on Thursday 9 May and close on Friday 5 July. You may nominate any freelance journalist or filmmaker who works in news and current affairs worldwide.
