Counting journalists killed worldwide
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ has revised its database of journalists killed worldwide. On 8 September it reported 44 deaths so far this year: two each in Bangladesh and Sudan, one each in Iraq, Myanmar and Pakistan; and the other 37 in Gaza. By 15 October the total had risen by 20, again mostly in Gaza.

Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn
Cases not yet checked out by CPJ include that of Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn, reported killed by a Turkish drone attack on their car in the Seyidsadiq district of Sulaymaniyah province, Iraq, on 23 August. The NUJ urged an immediate investigation.
The Branch continues to update its memorial list of journalists and media workers killed following the attack of 7 October 2023. As of 8 September 2024 we had confirmed names of 131 killed in Gaza on and since 7 October; 2 in Israel; and 3 in Lebanon.
