Payment on time is possible

IN THE Old Days, “the cheque is in the post” was counted one of the classic great lies. It no longer works - and a member's recent experience shows just how outdated it is.

“What I did like,” the member writes of a recent sale, “was that Private Eye asked me for a photo at 9am. I sent the link. Payment reached my bank at 9:10am.” The image came from a video already commissioned by someone else - demonstrating the value of retaining copyright and of not granting exclusive licences unless compensated for the lack of such on-sales.

All credit to the Eye. If we hear more examples we may need to come up with a name for the opposite of our Gong Award for late payment. Maybe just “The Medal”?
