Training: from data law to media openings in universities

THE BRANCH training programme has recently featured Matt Salusbury giving masterclasses in the use of the cover the Freedom of Information Act (FOI: on 23 May) and of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR: on 30 May).

Matt guided participants through practical scenarios, explained relevant case law, and equipped freelances with the confidence to use FOI and GDPR frameworks effectively.

And by popular demand on 25 July we repeated Sharon Wheeler’s workshop on how freelance journalists can build a career teaching in universities, whether part-time, full-time, or alongside other media work. She covered teaching on BAs, MAs, NCTJ and BJTC courses and what the acronyms are.

And in between these events we have held several less-formal “coffee mornings”. The most recent discussed pitching storied and getting through to the person you need to in some detail.

Please note also that there is a long-term programme for journalists who have English as a foreign language.
