The late Vivendi Universal

Compagnie Générale des Eaux was a globalised private utility in Paris, Lyons, Venice and Constantinople back in 1853. Now renamed Vivendi, it has sold its 'environmental' arm and owned Universal through Seagram, plus... lots. In May 2004 these holdings were "merged" into NBC Universal.
