Another month, another repressive Bill...YAWN. ANOTHER attack on civil liberties. So Seventies to get worked up about it, don't you think? Anyway, the only people who are worried about their phones being tapped are the sort of sad overgrown student activists who'd be devastated if they knew theirs weren't tapped -- aren't they? Actually, no. Measures in the Police Bill, due back in the Commons any day now, would allow middle-ranking police to authorise taps and bugs and burglaries against you; and then against your solicitor if you were charged as a result. Even if you plan to spend the rest of your life writing only police-friendly stories, plans can go wrong -- so you need to write to your MP today.  |
