Index Visual Creators!
One way for photographers to protect their images against digital abuse is by "watermarking" them. Digital watermarking is a way of embedding "I made this" information in a scanned photo. One day, we'll have a system that scans the Web and finds all your watermarks - and if you know any friendly computer programmers with time on their hands the Freelance has a cunning scheme, so send them here.
In theory, a watermark should survive cropping and even making a thumbnail of the photo. No system is yet perfect. But the first step is to register your watermark identifier, and you can do this now through the Visual Creators' Index (VCI). Visit www.vci-registry.org or email info@vci-registry.org with your name, occupation, postal and electronic addresses.
