EMAP pays up
THE DISPUTE at EMAP has been settled after just the one day on strike. Talks at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) were inconclusive but, just as the chapel was setting dates for new strikes, an agreement was reached. The new minimum salary will be £21k, and staff get a minimum increase of £500 or 2 per cent. The working week is reduced to 35 hours across the group.
Magazines organiser Mike Sherrington notes how pleased the chapel was with the solidarity shown by freelances. For details of disputes (and therefore of titles where you may find yourself unavailable), please take a look both at www.londonfreelance.org/disputes and at www.nuj.org.uk
