Record rate?

As the Freelance went to press, calligrapher Guan Dongsheng won what may be a record Rate for the Job: £29,000 for one character. Dow Jones commissioned the word "Dao" from him for use as an office ornament, then used it for their logo in China, so they got off lightly in court.

  • China Daily remembered to say that Guan Dongsheng sued for breach of moral rights too - or "spiritual losses" as their translator has it.
