Following his exposés of government corruption and honour killings in Pakistan, Mansoor Hassan faced several attempts on his life there - and is now seeking asylum in the UK. He would be in serious danger should he return to Pakistan. His appeal to stay in Britain has been refused. On 9 February family, friends and members of the NUJ gathered outside the Home Office in London to demand that he be allowed to stay in safety. Manchester MP and NUJ member Gerald Kaufman and NUJ General Secretary Jeremy Dear handed in a letter of appeal to Home Secretary Charles Clarke and immigration minister Des Browne.
