York on strike
The NUJ chapel at the Press in York is due to
take industrial action lasting five days on Thursday 22 May
following eight months of negotiations that have failed to result in a
deal on pay: the company has made a below-inflation offer of three per cent.
The Chapel hope - despite the short notice - that
any freelances who may either do shifts at the Press and associated
titles or supply material would support their staff colleagues during such action.
Chapel members would obviously be grateful if freelances found themselves
unavailable for work during those times. Those who have already contracted
to do work in this period should contact the Freelance Office.
Should you be able to get to York - and spend a few minutes with chapel
members outside the Press headquarters on Walmgate over the weekend - then we
are sure that the support would be very greatly appreciated. For more
information see the main NUJ website.
