The Gong: Chatelaine

THE GONG AWARD is a wake-up call to late payers. This nomination goes to Canadian magazine Chatelaine which sometimes pays an advance but insists that payment will be completed only 60 days after publication. In the report we have, editors reminded the freelance to invoice early and payment arrived three months after filing - five months after work started.
And if there's a glitch in the payment process contributors may have to wait longer.
If you are owed interest and compensation for late payment by a UK publication, it is important to reference the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act 1988 by name in all invoices and correspondence: see www.londonfreelance.org/interest.html
