LFB calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza
LONDON FREELANCE Branch passed the following motion at its meeting on 13 November:
LFB calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the murder of journalists.
We express our collective outcry at the murder of journalists and media workers covering the conflict in Gaza. At least 36 journalists and media workers have been killed in the conflict, with many more injured or missing.
LFB resolves to:
- call for an immediate ceasefire, posting this statement on its social media channels and also publishing it online and in print in the Freelance;
- call on the NUJ and IFJ also to call publicly for an immediate ceasefire; and
- send a copy of this statement to Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer as well as to the ICC International Criminal Court and the UN, urging all parties to back a ceasefire.
Since this was drafted the number of journalists known to have been killed has sadly risen to at least 47, with further reports to be checked if that is possible.
