New members met
THE LATEST new members' meeting had an impressive turnout of 14, plus veteran Phil Sutcliffe and Committee members Henry Broome and I. Central to our discussion was the challenge of investigative reporting: a terrain fraught with risks and rich with opportunities. Attendees delved into the nuances of maximising returns from a single story in the competitive realm of freelancing, emphasising the significance of securing copyright ownership and thus financial gains.
To empower these burgeoning journalists, the forum illuminated the support available within the NUJ. Highlights were legal assistance through NUJ and discounts on insurance for investigative reporters against defamation cases.
The session pulsated with insights and experiences, nurturing camaraderie between the established figures and the newcomers.
