So what would that day rate be as salary?

THE CREATORS' Rights Alliance - of which the NUJ is a member - now has a section of its website to help creative freelances of all kinds explore how to calculate creative fees and day rates for our work.

It links to member organisations' guides - including our Freelance Fees Guide - and it has "adopted" the Freelance Ready Reckoner. Originally made by NUJ member Andrew Bibby and now called the "Freelance Day Rate Guide", this works out the annual salary equivalent of a day rate, accounting for the costs of employing someone.

It may help in negotiation. It should be stressed that it is not a recommendation that any freelance accept a day rate when a licence to use copyright work is more appropriate.
