Remember the dead – and fight for the living!

LONDON FREELANCE Branch will mark the damage done by work to workers – including journalists’ work in war zones worldwide – with a vigil at St Brides, the Journalists' Church, off Fleet Street, London to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day on Monday 28 April.

We will hold a silent vigil from 13:00 to 14:00 at the journalists' altar, which remembers journalists of all faiths and none killed on the front-line; we will also remember also those who are missing and those who are wounded.

In the past 12 months 65 journalists are confirmed to have been killed in Gaza; 7 in Mexico; 7 in Sudan; 6 in Lebanon; 6 in Pakistan; 6 in Sudan; 4 in Iraq; 4 in Syria; 3 in Myanmar; 2 in Bangladesh; 2 in Haiti; 2 in India; 2 in Ukraine; and 1 each in Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Nepal, Nigeria, Mozambique, Russia and the West Bank. There are many further unconfirmed reports.

We give names of fallen coleagues at the links below.

Again, St Brides offers a non-denominational place to remember journalists of all faiths and none. The entrance is in St Bride's Passage, EC4Y 8AU, off Fleet Street; nearest Underground Blackfriars. Map here.

We will have a discussion after the vigil in the garden, weather permitting.
