More strike news: Cheshire, Merseyside, BBC
NUJ members at Newsquest Cheshire and Merseyside have voted unanimously to take two days of strike action on Wednesday 14 September and Tuesday 20 September, opposing compulsory redundancies and supporting quality at the papers.
Meanwhile, journalists at the BBC voted in August to strike over redundancies and are currently working to rule and considering further strike days.
Members at South Yorkshire Newspapers returned to work today following eight weeks of strike action. Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary said: "We are delighted that meaningful negotiations have started with South Yorkshire Newspapers and we hope the talks will be positive and constructive."
As ever, the chapels would appreciate it if freelances approached about work on any strike days, or to undermine a work-to-rule, found themselves unavailable. Anyone suffering hardship as a result of being unavailable should contact the chapel, via freelanceoffice@nuj.org.uk
